Lisa Buckland is a Melbourne based visual artist working with acrylic, watercolour and sumi ink. Engaged with shaping a unique arts practice informed by her experience in graphic design, screen printing and photography. Lisa’s influences come from the Rinpa / Nihonga Schools of Japanese fine art, with Japanese graphic design, kanji calligraphy and Chinese brush painting.

Her work examines identity, the connection to family and place, birds and animals to nature. Lisa photographs plants, flowers and trees throughout the seasons, telling their stories and their symbiotic relationships with pollinators. Lisa paints within this talisman of nature, her colour and mark-making is prioritised over realistic representation. Repetition and pattern bring a sense of movement to her work of poignant imagery and whimsy. Through wildlife and flora she aims to share the beauty and connection of the natural world, while evoking a response to the impacts of climate change and the vulnerability to extinction we all share.

Lisa has exhibited in many group exhibitions and has works held in private collections. She is currently painting landscapes of colonial gold mining and her family legacy in Harrietville, north east Victoria. This body of work will show in Lisa’s third solo exhibition ‘Gold Mountain’ in November 2023, at Sunbury Gallery, Hume Global Learning Centre Sunbury.
